Zentherapy
Zentherapy ® is a type of bodywork that was created by William "Dub" Leigh as a result of his training with Ida Rolf and a Zen master in Hawaii and he also studies with Moshe Feldenkrais learning functional movement re-education. Taking the skills of structural integration and the teachings from zen and Feldenkrais, combine to create an intense combination of skills and tools.
Practitioners who are in training are required to sit zazen (meditation) for extended periods of time. Structural Integration is a series of 10 bodywork sessions that works to improve the body's relationship with gravity which improves performance and relieves pain. Many pain syndromes can be a result of poor alignment in the body. It is more than just having bad posture which is a part of it, but not the whole story.
The sessions work on one section of the body at a time, starting with the ribs, chest and breathing. The first three sessions are just the beginning of preparing the body for the next 4 sessions which work with the deeper core muscles of the body that are the foundation of support for the spine and posture.
The last three sessions help integrate the body back into alignment. Recipients often report a growth in height and feeling lighter.
The Zentherapy Institute is somewhat non-existent after the death of William 'Dub' Leigh but there are some Zentherapy classes being taught by Bill Thompson of the Alexander School of Massage in Tacoma WA and by Audrey Nakamura through zentherapy.org.
