Want to be a successful Massage Therapist? Just put one foot in front of the other

I have been a practicing massage therapist since 2002. I've worked for many chiropractors, Neurologists and day spas. During the spring of 2010, in a small town called Cape Coral, Florida, I had a bug in my behind to leave a schedule of patients already lined up for me weekly and open my own "spa". I put spa in quotes because my spa was unique in the fact that I catered to medical massage seeking clients as well as the day spa kind. I wanted to have a blend of both and wanted everyone to feel relaxed and at ease the moment they stepped into my business. Everyone thought I had lost my mind because I was not going to have many clients follow me to my new place, because they were primarily insurance cases. I was pretty much starting fresh and on a shoe string budget in a horrible economy. I am now just a month shy of my one year anniversary, and I can honestly say that we are doing better month after month. I have added on additional staff and am offering more services. I have even had a few insurance cases of my own and plan to pick up more. What I have learned is, although I am a shy person by nature, a person that has difficulty "selling" myself, my customer service and massage therapy techniques have helped my business grow. My point is that you can be successful. You just have to keep moving forward. Put one foot in front of the other and don't allow fear to be part of your plans. I am still a new business but I am looking ahead at where I want my spa to go. I will get there, even if with just baby steps. Guess I will have to come back and let you know how it is going a year from today.
