Virginia School of Massage, Charlottesville, VA

The Virginia School of Massage is part of the Steiner Education Group, which operates massage therapy schools and skin care schools in 17 locations in 9 states. Steiner Education Group is a subsidiary of Steiner Leisure Limited, a global provider of spa services. Steiner spas, both on land and at sea, recruit from the Virginia School of Massage.

This comprehensive 768-hour program prepares students to become successful practicing bodyworkers by giving them a broad knowledge of both Eastern and Western theories and techniques. The program exceeds standards set by most state and municipal governments for licensing. Students learn basic massage theory and technique. They are also taught an Eastern paradigm of bodywork therapy that includes shiatsu and acupressure, along with contemporary Western modalities such as structural bodywork, trigger point therapy & rehabilitation massage, sports massage, and cranial sacral therapy.

The program includes extensive coverage of anatomy and physiology in order to give students a solid, technical, scientific understanding of the body – so that they can serve their clients well and be able to communicate with other health care professionals. Business and career development classes, along with training in laws and regulations, are also offered.

Program Objectives:
To give students knowledge of and experience with a wide variety of bodywork modalities in order to produce graduates who will be able to offer the highest quality service to their clients and who will be in demand with employers of all kinds.

when a student with disabilities needs help as long as you have an IEP Form they are very supportive of you. it is a great school to meet people and classmates can be very supportive. the hardest part of the classes is that it does run on a block schedule, so the teachers sometimes forget that there are new students in the class. the best advise i can give for someone who plans on going to school here is friend an older student to get you through your first block, and do not be afraid to ask questions. always make sure to never miss the first day of a new modality. HW is worth most of your grade so make sure you do it and it is really easy to get ahead in anatomy, but do no more than your block assignment. the syllabus will tell you what you need to do. and it is worth doing the extra credit.
a lot of the the teachers are very carrying and will listen to what you have to say.
as for people that come from a sheltered background, i was very sheltered when i started but you get over the shyness really quickly, just remember that massage is a medical career that you will be helping people with.
