Virginia Massage Licensing

Virginia Massage Licensing is regulated by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Their regulations define massage(from their website) as:

"The terms "massage therapy" and "therapeutic massage" do not include the diagnosis or treatment of illness or disease or any service or procedure for which a license to practice medicine, nursing, chiropractic therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, or podiatry is required by law"

n order to practice Massage Therapy in the state of Virginia you must have at least 500 hours of an approved massage training program and a successful completion of a National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork NCETMB examination. (Info subject to regulation changes so be sure to check with the state board.)
