Utah Massage Licensing
Utah Massage Licensing is regulated by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing Board of Massage. They currently require 600 hours of education and the NCE. There are approximately 4,400 massage therapists licensed in Utah and they have been licensed since 1981. They do allow for apprenticeships in which is defined as "...an individual licensed under this chapter as a massage apprentice to work under the direct supervision of a licensed massage therapist." They are allowed to "devising a treatment plan to promote homeostasis;" And another interesting piece is that they are allowed to provide "counseling, education, and other advisory services to reduce the incidence and severity of physical disability, movement dysfunction, and pain;" Massage therapists are fingerprinted. Massage Laws are subject to change. Be sure to contact the Utah State Board of massage with all of your Utah Massage Licensing questions. If you are thinking of becoming a massage therapist, be sure to do your research and know what you are getting into. It is much more than just going to massage school and finding a job. Entry level jobs start at $12 an hour but you can make more when you start your own business or if you are able to show employers just how much you will be able to make for them.
