Thai Massage

Thai Massage is also known as Nuad bo-Rarn which means "Ancient Massage" in Thailand. Thai massage has no resemblance to western massage at all. No oil is used. There are no long relaxing strokes. You don't take your clothes off or lie on a massage table. You are positioned on the floor either lying on your back or front, side lying or sitting. It is sort of a cross between yoga and pressure point therapy. The practitioners use their thumbs, feet, forearms, elbows and knees to move energy through the energy system that they refer to as sen. They position you in yoga-like poses which is why it is often referred to as yoga for lazy people.

There are two main styles of thai massage: Northern (Chiang-Mai) and Southern (Bangkok). The southern style which is more predominant in Thailand is found to be to painful and intense for most Americans. The Northern Style is more gentle and relaxing.

Thai massage has only been in the US for about the last 20 years but has been a traditional part of Thailand for about 2,500 years.

Thai massage is said to increase the overall fitness of the recipient while stretching muscles that surround the joints and works to open up the flow of energy along the sens (lines)
