Retaining Massage Clients
Retaining massage clients or getting massage clients to come in every week for a massage or even just once a month is one of the challenges of being a successful massage therapist. Starting with the massage clients that you do have and educating them as to why it is important to come in weekly for a massage is one of the easiest ways to build your massage business. You need to focus on retaining clients if you have your own business or have a job in massage. The simplest thing you can do is to just talk to the person during the massage and find out what their needs are. Ask questions during the interview and the massage to find out things like how physically active they are, what type of work do they do so that you can figure out their pain patterns and stress area. Then start talking about massage and how it can address their needs - what can it do for them? Using examples of what it has done for others can be motivating too. Many people still think of massage as a luxury and not a way of life. It also helps to talk about how often some of your other clients get massage. I have had a few men who get massage 2x a week and they have for over 15 and 19 years each. When people hear that it can be motivating for many to start planing to make that happen financially. Then when the person is on their way out the simplest thing to do is to ask if they would like an appointment next week and tell them a few openings that you have starting with the current date and time if you do have it open. My regulars usually have standing appointment days and times that are exclusively their time. There are some other ideas for retaining clients: - Get their email address on the intake form and send out an email at the beginning of the week with your available appointment times.
- Send out a note or card in the regular mail after their first session offering a special discount. Include in it a few personal notes on the things you talked about regarding their bodies and tight areas or painful areas.
- Have a place on your website where people can add their testimonials. Offer a discount for people who write one for you.
- Have a feedback form on your website or a feedback form that you send out to people. You can have it be anonymous so they don't have to say who is giving the feedback in hope that they will give more honest feedback.
- Work with a supervisor to make sure your massage skills and communication on the table are working. Check to see if you are giving too much advice to people or are talking too much in a session that would keep people from coming back
- What feeling comes up for you when you think about having 20 people who come in every week? Do you get a feeling like it isn't possible or that you aren't good enough? It is those little (or not so little) unconscious beliefs that really are what are creating your reality.
