Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is massage geared toward of course the pregnant woman. The physical, emotional and spiritual changes that a mom-to-be goes through is a difficult yet amazing process. As the mother's body changes, more stress is put on her body.

Pregnancy massage can help ease the pains and discomfort of pregnancy as well as help the mother all the way through the process of labor and even more importantly recovery after labor.

Massage school may touch on some of the basics of working with pregnant women and most massage therapists should have the basic information on how to work on a pregnant woman. Even if you are not specializing in working with pregnant women, you will at sometime in your career have a pregnant woman on your table. You will need to know how to deal with the various stages of pregnancy as each stage will have it's physical challenges.

Some massage therapist go on to specialize in working with pregnant women and take extra training in pregnancy massage. You can get certified by peri- and pre-natal massage programs.

While there are not many jobs yet in hospitals or birthing centers for massage therapists, most pregnancy massage therapists are self employed and run their own business. Massage therapy jobs are still undeveloped and really a new phase of the massage profession. If you are not interested in having your own business you may be able to create your own job as a pregnancy massage therapist working in a hospital, with a midwife or in some other type of labor support group. You can get more information in the Job Section.
