Polarity Therapy

Polarity Therapy is sometimes lumped into the massage therapy category but it really has little to do with massage. Polarity therapy is a type of energy work created by Randolph Stone who was a osteopath, nauropath, chiropractor in the 1940's. He is the author of many books on Polarity therapy.

The term 'polarity' is used to describe the basic patterns of energy flow within the body. Health conditions are viewed as a reflection of the energy flow.Stone created a four part system that includes pressure-point therapy with diet, exercises (Yoga) and self awareness. His theory is that energy flows between two electrical poles (negative and positive, yin and yang) which circulates in and outside our bodies. Each current corresponds to a particular chakra, element, body system and life function. There are 5 vertical channels some horizontal channels. When the bodies energies are balanced between the positive and negative zones it creates a continuous flow of energy.

In the 1980's, the American Polarity Therapy Association was created to continue teaching polarity and create a certification process. Some states are beginning to recognize that polarity therapy is not massage and they create an exemption from state massage licensing. You need to check with each states regulations to find out if you need to go to massage school in order to do Polarity therapy.
