New Hampshire Massage Licensing

New Hampshire Massage Licensing is handled by the New Hampshire Dept. of Health & Services

Title: Licensed Massage PractitionerRequirement: 750hrs, NCETMB and practical examRenewal: 12hrs/2yrs

Massage is defined by the New Hampshire State Board of massage website as:

"Massage" means the application of a system of structured touch which includes holding, pressure,positioning, or causing movement, by manual means, for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, andrestoring the health and well-being of the client. Massage is designed to promote general relaxation,improve movement, relieve somatic and muscular pain or dysfunction, stress and muscle tension, andprovide for general health enhancement, personal growth, and the organization, balance, and integrationof the body.

328-B:2a Scope of Practice. A massage therapist may do any of the following when performingmassage, including, but not limited to:Page 1 of 6I. Use of heat and cold, hydrotherapy, heliotherapy, and external application of herbal or topicalpreparations not classified as prescription drugs.II. Analysis of posture and movement.III. Provision of education in self-care and stress management.IV. Performance of techniques in which the massage therapist had been trained intended to affect theenergetic systems of the body.

(5) A recent 2” x 2” photograph of the applicant’s face;(6) The applicant’s date of birth;(7) The applicant’s social security number as required by RSA 161-B:11;(8) The name and address of the massage therapy school attended, dates attended and the hours of instruction received;(9) An official copy of the diploma or certificate received from the massage therapy school;(10) Verification that the applicant has completed the educational requirements of He-P 905.01 as follows:

He-P 902.04 Practical Examination for License.(a) Each applicant applying for an initial license as a massage therapist shall pass a practical examination.(b) In order to pass the practical examination, applicants shall receive a score of at least 75 percent.
