GU/MSB offers two massage therapy programs:
Massage Therapy Diploma. Finish in just 12 months and join the workforce as a massage therapist. Students in the basic program will learn:
Swedish Massage: Introduction to skills and knowledge necessary for completion of a full body Swedish massage.
Pregnancy/Special Populations Massage: Introduction to pregnancy massage to relieve pain that occurs through pregnancy, geriatric massage for learning to deal with health conditions and working with elders and hospice massage for aiding the process of dying.
Myofascial Release: Introductory skills and knowledge necessary to manipulate connective tissue by performing a full-body myofascial release routine.
Hot Stone Massage/Spa Techniques: Introduction to spa techniques, including: aromatherapy, body wraps, hot stone massage and reflexology.
Deep Tissue/Trigger Point Massage: Introduction to techniques that affect and manipulate deep tissue.
Introduction to Thai Massage/Energy Work: Introduction to Thai Massage and Energy Work techniques.
Sports Massage: Introduction to common rehabilitative and sport injury conditions and symptoms.
Associate in Applied Science in Massage Therapy. This "2-year program" can be completed in 18 months of full-time study. You’ll learn basic and advanced massage techniques and study the nuts and bolts of the massage business and in addition to the basic program you will learn
Craniosacral Therapy (sometimes referred to as cranial sacral therapy) which deals specifically with the cranial bones and bones of the sacrum in the low back to relieve pain and help heal injuries.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage to help improve the circulation of the lymphatic system that is an important part of the immune system as well as healing from injuries or various health conditions.
As a licensed massage therapist, you are able to work in a spa or clinic as an employee or start your own business.
