Massage Liability Insurance
Massage Liability insurance or malpractice insurance is needed in order to practice massage professionally. Because there is little to no harm done in the massage profession by massage therapists, the massage liability insurance is usually really inexpensive. The three major massage associations - The Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP), the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and the International Massage Association (IMA)- all provide massage malpractice insurance with membership in the organization. There are also a few other companies that just offer massage liability insurance such as the Hands on Trade Association, Massage Magazine's Insurance Plus and the American Massage Council. Most massage therapists just starting out just choose the least expensive insurance which is offered by the Hands on Trade Association, Massage Magazine's Insurance Plus and the American Massage Council. - Do they offer other services such as a website or discounts on credit card processing or other things like that.
- Do they require that you take CE for renewal?
- Do they provide an attorney and pay for all expenses if a case is brought against you?
- Do they cover identity theft (when your client records are stolen or lost, you will need to inform your clients and also provide a plan to help them monitor their credit or identity). The only plan I have seen that covers that is the one through Massage Magazine's Insurance Plus
You will also have to understand just what your coverage is and what it isn't. Liability insurance will cover you for 'errors of ommission' and
