A few more questions for the already wonderful and comprehensive list of questions to ask prospective employers...
1. Will I be required to perform janitorial services? If so, what are they and how will I be compensated?
2. How are the appointments booked by the receptionists? Are appointments booked in order of seniority or is another system in place?
3. What is my comprehensive compensation package? First wait for a response and if the following items are not covered in the employer's response, ask these questions. How much will I be paid while I am offering massage therapy services? How much will I be paid while I am in the office waiting in between appointments? How much will I be paid if I am on call outside of the office? What percentage of the gratuities will I receive? What percentage of sales of products will I receive? Will I receive an end-of-year bonus? What type of vacation plan may I expect to receive? Do you offer maternity leave and/or sick leave? After what period of time might I expect a salary increase?
4. What type of system is in place for reimbursement for educational expenses, including, but not limited to the acquisition of CE hours required to maintain my license?
5. Will I be assigned a designated treatment room on a consistent basis or will I be required to move from room to room during the course of the day?
6. If the spa or clinic begins offering new services (for example, Aromatherapy or Hot Stone Therapy) and I would like to offer those services, what are the requirements to be "checked off" on those services so I can offer them at the spa or clinic?
7. If the treatment room is very cold or very hot, does management provide a small space heater or a small oscillating fan for the treatment room for the comfort of the client and the comfort of the therapist?
8. How often are group meetings held, how long are the meetings, are therapists allowed to fully participate in a dialogue in the meetings, and are therapists paid to attend the meetings?
9. How much time does the therapist have between appointments to exit the current client, change the linens, straighten the room, and prepare for the next client? Is additional time allocated if the therapist has performed a hot stone session and needs to clean and sanitize the stones after the treatment?
10. What can I do to be most supportive to management and to my fellow therapist in this environment?
