Massage Cupping
Massage Cupping therapy is becoming more popular. Cupping is an
ancient art that was generally a part of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Glass cups are used to create a vacuum suction cup that is applied to the body in various places. To create suction, a cotton ball is soaked in alcohol, ignited and then placed into the cup, which will evacuate some of the air. The cotton ball is taken out and the cup is quickly placed on the skin. This creates suction on the skin. It can be moved around or just left to sit in one spot. It is used to relieve pain and discomfort of things like back and neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and most musculo-skeletal disorders.
Massage therapists are now learning the art of massage cupping and using it in their massage sessions. This can help reduce the strain on the massage therapists body while providing another way to loosen up the muscles and adhesions in the connective tissue of the body.
Cups have progressed from the traditional glass cups into newer cups made of silicone. There are also glass cups with various methods of creating a vacuum other than using the traditional way of lighting a cotton ball inside the cup to remove the air.
