(Formerly the Massage Career Guide)

Massage Careers are being talked about as the next up and coming profession with the demand for massage increasing until 2016. Spas, Hospitals, Chiropractors and Health clinics are hiring massage therapists. More people are using massage for injuries such as pulled muscles, carpal tunnel, herniated discs and other conditions such as fibromyalgia. Massage is being recognized by Doctors and other medical professionals as legitimate healing methods.
Sports teams and facilities are using massage to enhance performance of everyday athletes as well as Olympic Athletes. Massage is being offered at truck stops, equestrian events (on people and the horses!), local fairs, in office buildings, convention centers, airports and coffee shops. The sky really is the limit in a career in massage. You can create just about anything you set your mind to.
Massage therapists are starting their own businesses and opening their own health and wellness centers. They are using their business skills and creativity to bring massage to all sorts of people. Low cost massage clinics are being started for the underprivileged. Massage membership programs promote getting regular massage as a part of health care.
Massage Careers are about creating meaningful work helping others through their injuries and difficult times. It is a path of great potential for professional and personal growth. Working with people and touching them provides a platform for creating a meaningful therapeutic relationship that is healing for both parties involved. Learning about how to be a witness to a persons healing process is a very inspiring process.
While all of that is true - there is another side to the story that massage schools and associations don't really tell you about. It isn't all as easy as you might be thinking. Jobs are low paying and high paying jobs are hard to come by. That is why most massage therapists still start their own business, but starting and running a business is really difficult. Massage schools will tell you about all of the positive aspects of becoming a massage therapist like I just did but most will not tell you the truth about what you will really have to be dealing with. Most massage therapists burnout after a few years but it doesn't have to be that way if you really understand and prepare for what you are getting into.
My book - "A Career in Massage- Is it for You? The Truth About Becoming a Massage Therapist" can help you do just that. When you go into the career understanding just what it is about and accept the challenge your chances of success increase dramatically.
Doing research about massage careers and finding out what it is that you are passionate about and what your needs are. My book is the beginning of providing information and helping you to understand massage careers so you can ask the right questions of the massage schools and massage therapists you interview.

I am writing this after 24 years of making a living as a massage therapist in Seattle WA. Through the years I have seen many massage therapists come and go - some that I have even personally recommended going to massage school. When I first started there were very few jobs and doing massage was more about a lifestyle than making a living. As more massage therapists have entered the market, it makes massage therapists take their massage business more seriously and see it as a business.
Being a massage therapist can still be a very rewarding and successful career when you go into it being fully prepared and informed. You can do so when you purchase my Book "A Career in Massage - Is it for you? " now in it's 4th edition as an ebook since 2002 and Now as a Book in it's First edition.
