Hellerwork Structural Integration
Hellerwork Structural Integration was developed by Joseph Heller
who was a student of Ida Rolf's (Rolfing ®). He was initially the first president of the Rolf Institute in 1976. A few years later he left to develop his own version of the 10 system method, adding an additional session. In addition to the physical alignment techniques of Rolfing, Hellerwork also uses movement to integrate the work and guided verbal dialogue to address the psychological components of bodywork.
They provide a client's handbook to go along with each session to further assist the client in becoming more aware of their bodies. You can download the Hellerwork Client Handbook on the Hellerwork Structural Integration Website. It will give you an idea of what is involved in the sessions as a client. If you are considering becoming a Hellerworker, it is required that you go through the sessions yourself to begin with. The Hellerwork Training is a 1250 hour program consisting of classes in anatomy and physiology as well as instruction in the basic 11 session protocol. To practice Hellerwork professionally, you may still be required to become licensed as a massage therapist. You will have to find out of the Hellerwork training program will meet your states massage licensing requirements. A few states have made Hellerworker's exempt from massage licensing.
There are also many other types of Structural Integration being developed as a result of Ida Rolf's work.
