Hawaii Massage License

To practice massage in Hawaii you will need a Hawaii Massage License. You can obtain a Hawaii Massage License by contacting the Department of Commerce and Consumers Affairs.You will also need 570 hrs and a take written exam administered by the state. Apprenticeship permits are available.

The State of Hawaii defines Massage:

"Massage", "massage therapy", and "Hawaiian massage" commonly known as lomilomi, meansany method of treatment of the superficial soft parts of the body, consisting of rubbing, stroking,tapotement, pressing, shaking, or kneading with the hands, feet, elbow, or arms, and whether or notaided by any mechanical or electrical apparatus, appliances, or supplementary aids such as rubbingAmended 6972

alcohol, liniments, antiseptics, oils, powder, creams, lotions, ointments, or other similar preparationscommonly used in this practice. Any mechanical or electrical apparatus used as described in thischapter shall be approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

Massage therapy establishments to be licensed. Massage Therapists who advertise their business must also include their business license number in advertising.
