finding work

by Becky
(Brewster, WA)

I don't have the money to start my own business so I am out looking for work. I just graduated, just passed my State of Washington boards, sent in my application to the state and now I'm waiting.
I'm running out of unemployment, filing for divorce, jobless, have a good education in massage, but am unemployed. I've looked for other work, but can't even get THAT! i'm sending my resume out to everyone I can think of, but won't be able to take massage work until I am licensed. I'm living in a big loop!
I try to read all the positive info I can get about massage, but find that because they can pay you less, employers do. I'm thinking I shouldn't have bothered to go to school for massage in the first place! However, I am passionate about massage and want to do it, but right now it just doesn't seem like I did the right thing...took the right path.
I'm in an economically depressed area and even a small room in a salon is $250 mo.
Any ideas?
HELP!

Try to find a position as chiropractic assistant
by: Hans Albert Quistorff, LMP Antalgic Posture Pain Specialist

I was able to start as a chiropractic assistant with a variety of duties. This prevented me from burning out and gave me skills that now allow me to have a strong independent career. My story is at http://www.male-massage-therapist.com/hans-albert-quistorff-lmp-massage-therapist-in-wauna-wa.html

finding a job in massage
by: Anonymous

$250 a month is really cheap. You should be able to make that in your first week of renting space. Making a commitment to renting space will show you are serious about this and just not in this for a hobby.

Figure out where you want to work. Find the best place to work - the place that pays the most, treats the MT the best. Go and get a few massages from different places and talk to the Mt to find out which places are best. Ask them how to get a job there. Stop sending out resumes blindly. Figure out what you want to do and don't settle for anything less. Do what it takes to get the job there.

Create a marketing plan for yourself that includes how you will help improve their business and how much you will make for them.
