California Massage Schools
California Massage Schools are very plentiful with CA having the highest number of massage therapists (43,000 as of 7/12). CA Massage Licensing is now regulated by the California Massage Therapy Council. It is still a voluntary process of becoming a certified massage therapist in CA. There are two levels of certification available. The Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) will have to go through 500 hours of training with 250 hours being taken from an approved school and the rest of the 250 hours from approved schools or from continuing education providers. The Certified Massage Practitioner (CMP) is 250 hours from one CMTC approved massage school.
Schools must either be nationally accredited, state approved by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), or a California community college.
