Body Oriented Psychotherapy
Body Oriented Psychotherapy is a branch of the psychology profession that requires much more training than that of a regular massage therapist. Some of the early founders of this branch of psychology include Wilhelm Riech (Bioenergetics), Postural Integration (Jack Painter), Gestalt Therapy (Fritz Perls), Core Energetics (John C. Pierrakos), Hakomi Therapy ( Ron Kurz) and many other disciplines.Body Mind Psychotherapy takes all aspects of a person into consideration - physical, mental, emotional components are related to each other in that if one is out of balance, the other systems will be affected. The theory is that the mind can be accessed through the body to bring about new awareness and changes for a person. Body oriented therapy is often used with people with extreme post traumatic stress disorders or early childhood issues that may be preverbal in nature. The amount of training needed varies with each discipline so be sure to check out each area and research the field thoroughly before taking classes to see what is required for you to practice professionally.
