Birmingham Massage School

Our mission at the Birmingham School of Massage is to provide our students with the best training and education possible in the field of massage therapy according to standards set by the Alabama State Board of Massage Therapy. To accomplish this, we provide curriculum which includes theory, classroom education, guided practice, supervised clinical practicum and public service.

We have taken a leading role in the development of massage therapy standards and believe we have created a healthy environment for learning and practicing massage therapy.

Program Objectives

* To prepare students to enter the work force as massage therapists.
* To prepare students to use the principles and techniques of massage to assess and treat disorders of the human body which may benefit from massage.
* To provide students with adequate information, demonstration, and practice to perform massage procedures capably and safely.
* To provide students with the necessary information and knowledge to understand the business, marketing, budgeting, insurance, advertising, ethical, and legal principles, issues, and concerns of the profession.
* To enable students to communicate effectively with clients, other health care providers, and the community at large as to the benefits and advisability of massage.
* To provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to open and manage a private practice.

Number of hours of training: 650 hours, culminating in dual certification with the student earning certifications in both Professional Massage Therapy and in the advanced technique of Neuromuscular Therapy
