Bindgewebs Massage - Elizabeth Dicke
Bindgewebs Massage is also known as Connective Tissue Massage or
reflexive therapy of the connective tissue. It is a light form of connective tissue work which works the subcutaneous fascia resulting in stimulating the sensory nervous system. This type of massage does not use oil or lotion to lubricate the skin resulting in a slight pulling of the skin. There are a variety of hand strokes such as fan, hooking and smoothing that are used.
Head Zones were created by Henry Head a 19th century neurologist. She expanded on Heads work and mapped out a system of dermatomes for the body.
This type of massage is done in a sitting position unless the person is unable to sit. It begins by addressing the sacral-pelvic area and the first reflex effect. The session will usually progress to working up to the chest and neck areas.
Elizabeth Dicke disovered Bindgewebs massage due to a severe medical condition that impaired her circulation in the 1930's. There is an Elizabeth Dicke School in West Germany.
In 1942 Dicke, Kohlrausch, Leube and Mac Kenzie published "Massage of Reflex Zones in the Connective Tissue in the Presence of Rheumatic and Internal Diseases"
