Ayurvedic Massage Therapy

Ayurvedic Massage Therapy is a type of massage based on the principles of Ayurveda which is one of the oldest systems of medicine in Nepal and Sri Lanka. Ayurveda is translated into "life's knowledge" or Life's Science and is based on the principles of creating balance in the body and mind. It consists of both male and female energies similar to the yin and yang of Chinese Medicine but is the opposite- female is the active form and male is the passive form. Prana is the life energy and is based on the 5 primary states- earth, water, fire, air, and ether. There are 3 forces - vata, kapha and pitta that explain how the body works. These are called doshas. Balancing the doshas will result in health.

Vata = air = the dosha of movement. Excess vata people will have excess movement or restless personalities.

Kapha = earth which is a stabilizing force. Excess kapha people will be prone to gaining weight.

Pitta is fire and is the connection between the air and the earth. An excess of Pitta will be people who are passionate and subject to digestive disorders.
