Aston Patterning

Aston Patterning is a system of hands on work and movement sessions developed by Judith Aston. It is now referred to as Aston Kinetics.

Judith Aston was a movement eduction teacher originally and she went on to study with Ida Rolf (Rolfing). In 1971 she started teaching something she called Rolf- Aston Structural Patterning and Movement Analysis. In about 1977 she went on to totally separate from the Rolfing people because she had developed her own theories that were different from Rolfing. She thought that the linear alignment suggested by Rolf was not accurate and that the body was asymmetrical because of the placement of the internal organs and there is usually a dominant side.
