Ashiatsu Massage
Ashiatsu massage is traditionally apply pressure to massage a body using barefeet. It is also sometimes called Barefoot Shiatsu. Traditional Ashiatsu Therapy involves looking at emotional states, breathing patterns, and focuses on the diet of the patient. The client usually lies on the floor and is fully clothed while the massage therapist skillfully uses their feet to do the massage. When ashiatsu was first started thousands of years ago in China, its followers were more interested in "chi," or energy, than soothing aching muscles. In traditional Ashiatsu, practitioners follow the flow of the yin meridians coming up from the earth and then the yang meridians coming down from the heavens. In the late 1990s, massage therapist Ruthie Hardee developed a version of Ashiatsu known as Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. It is done with clients lying on a massage table and the client usually takes some or most of their clothes off compared to traditional ashiatsu where the clothing is left on. The therapist applies foot pressure while standing on the person while holding on to a bar above the table. This type of massage can be good for massage therapists who have hand injuries or who want to avoid them. It is also just easier on the body when performing massage.
