Arkansas Massage Licensing

There are approximately 2,200 massage therapists in Arkansas and massage therapists are regulated by The Arkansas State Board of Massage Therapy.

Arkansas licenses the following categories of massage therapists:

Massage Therapist, Master Massage Therapist, Instructor

and requires 500 hrs and State Exam OR 500 hrs and NCETMB.

It isn't really clear from the Arkansas Massage Therapy Board

But it appears that you need 500 hours to be a massage therapist and an additional 250 hours of experience to become a "master massage therapist" which you can actually get from assisting teaching at a massage school.

Becoming a Massage therapist is much more than just helping people. It is about learning to be of service and learning to be a business professional. Most massage therapists start their own business. The entry level jobs start at $12 an hour. Most massage therapists only work 20 hours a week and that is considered to be full time work because of the physical demands. You can learn more about what a career in massage is really like by reading the Massage Career Guide - The Truth About Becoming a Massage Therapist.
