Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a system of body movement created by Frederick Mathias Alexander who was a Shakespearean actor who suffered from voice problems. He developed this method as a way to enhance his performances on stage and it went on to become much more than that. It is now used by all sorts of musicians, actors, artists and people with serious health issues.

The basic theory is that tension is created by our habitual movement patterns and poor bodymechanics. We associate various activities with habitual movements and lose are awareness of having these habits. By becoming more aware of how we move we can create a more balanced physical body and restoring the alignment to the neck/head/torso is a big part of the process.

Each session is individually designed for each person and what they are trying to achieve. There is a series of hands-on sessions and verbal instructions to clients to help bring body awareness to some basic movements that we take for granted like walking and sitting. It uses visualization exercises and thought patterning to change the health of clients.
